Cool new site ExecTweet launched today. It's a partnership between Federated Media, Twitter and Microsoft. In Twitter's words:
ExecTweets is a resource to help you find and follow the top business executives on Twitter. Created by Federated Media, in partnership with Microsoft, ExecTweets is a platform that aggregates the tweets of top business execs and empowers the community to surface the most insightful, business-related tweets.
You can browse execs by industry, recommend execs to participate and follow Exec Tweets. I signed up to follow and will see how it goes. You can also vote posts up (not down… hmm) and reply to an exec tweet right from the site. There are Featured posts and Most Popular. It's not clear what makes a Featured post.
There is also a place for the community to participate. I tried it out myself. You can see in the screenshot below my tweet showed up on the top of the Community Tweets right after I posted (SeattleGirl). I used the Twitter posting box on the page to Tweet but you can also just add the @exectweets to your Tweet and it will show up on the page. I really liked how they brought the larger community into this site. I'm not a CEO but I liked that I could get my Tweet up there as well. Nice job on including the community.
So is this Twitter's plan for making some money? Could be a start. In their own words "if you're a major brand and you want to sponsor a topic-focused social media experience with Twitter, we suggest Federated Media—they'll fix you up right". Microsoft's logos is featured but not prominent. What does Microsoft get out of it? I would say a good amount of thought leadership with corporate clients. They are using the Enterprise Ready creative which tells me they are focused on Enterprise customers plus this is really a great way to demonstrate to our corporate customers we are interested in facilitating dialog through the web. Funny enough I don't believe our CEO Tweets
Other possibilities with suggested sponsors: StyleTweet (Nordstrom), ChefTweet (Whole Foods), TravelTweet (JetBlue), HomeDecorateTweet (Target). I could go on and on….
